KLANG: Social worker Mother Mangalam Iyaswamy Iyer and former principal Sister Enda Ryan will be conferred the Dato' Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) today.

The title, which carries the title of Datin Paduka for women, will be awarded by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in conjunction with his 62nd birthday.

Mangalam, 81, is the president of the Pure Life Society and Enda, 79, is the founder and first principal of the Assunta Secondary School.

The sultan will be awarding only 34 Datukships.

Mangalam was born on May 17, 1926 in Singapore and educated at the Raffles Girls School and the Saradhamani Girls School.
She was conferred the honorary title of "Mother" by the Pure Life Society board in 1986, because she has been a mother to numerous orphans and underprivileged children who came to the society.

Sister Enda was born Eileen Philomena Ryan, in a village called Galbally in Limerick County, Ireland.

She entered the convent after finishing school at 18 and joined the Order of the Franciscan Missionary of Mary. She arrived in Malaya in 1954.

She was conferred Tokoh Guru Selangor in 1990 and was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts degree by the National University of Ireland, Galway, for her contribution to education in Malaysia in 2005.

The prime minister's wife Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah and Universiti Industri Selangor pro chancellor Raja Datuk Arshad Raja Tun Uda will be conferred the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS), which carries the title Datin Paduka Seri (for women) and Datuk Seri (for men).

Specialist cardiology consultant Datuk Dr Anuar Masduki, from the Subang Jaya Medical Centre, along with Umno Ampang chief Datuk Mufti Suib, will be conferred the Datuk Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS) which carries the title Datuk Setia.

Fifteen people will receive the Dato' Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.

They are former deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Aziz, Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon, Senator Lee Sing Chooi, Paya Jaras Assemblyman Muhammad Bushro Mat Johor and Sungai Burong Assemblyman Mohd Shamsudin Lias.

The others are Royal Malaysian Navy deputy chief Vice-Admiral Datuk Abdul Aziz Jaafar, Royal Malaysian Navy Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish, Foreign Ministry Deputy secretary-general II Tan Seng Sung, CMY Capital Group executive chairman Datuk Chua Ma Yu, Bank Negara Assistant Governor Muhammad Ibrahim, Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Roslan Sakiman and Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Adnan Md Ikshan.

Also receiving the award are state legal adviser Datuk Zauyah Be Loth Khan, Education Ministry parliamentary secretary P. Komala Devi and International Islamic University law faculty dean Professor Datuk Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin.

The other recipients of the DSIS are Crest Builders Holding Bhd chairman Tengku Sulaiman Shah Tengku Abdul Jalil Shah, Umno Subang deputy chief Datuk Zein Isma Ismail, former Kuala Selangor District Orang Besar Abd Rauf Badiuzzaman, University Putra Malaysia's Academia Linkage Graduate School of Management head Prof Dr Aziuddin Ahmad and Umno Selangor secretary Radin Mokhtar Md Yusof.

The others are Umno Petaling Jaya Utara deputy chief Mohd Nor Hisham Mohd Nordin, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council president Mohammad Yacob, Museums Department director-general Paiman Keromo, Umno Sabak Bernam treasurer Warno Dogol, Selangor MCA treasurer Beh Hang Kong, former Guthrie group manager John Michael Gullick and Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Yong Dai Ying.

Fourteen people will receive the Setia Mahkota Selangor, another 14 the Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, 15 the Ahli Mahkota Selangor (AMS), 15 the Ahli Sharafuddin Idris Shah and seven the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang awards.
